Build your Personal Social Media Accounts as well as your Business Ones
It is important that you build your personal/professional social media accounts as well as your business/company one.
People are looking for a human connection and for authenticity (which was one of the buzz words for 2018). A simple way to do this is to use and curate a professional personal account (alongside your business account).
However, this is easier said than done. You are potentially splitting your time and focus (and therefore doing nothing well or not as well as you could be) or you might be sending a weaker message or struggle to be “on message” all the time. I personally found that it helped to consolidate my efforts and do all my social media planning in one place (and this is what sparked the creation of the social media planner).
There are a number of things that you can do to build and manage your personal and social media accounts (and the social media planner can help with this).
01 Pick your accounts wisely
The starting point is to pick which social media accounts you want to use (and why) and which you are going to use as a personal account and which you are going to use for a business account or which you might have multiple accounts for or which you might keep private.
There are many factors that might influence your decision. Think about:
- who your audience is
- where your audience hangs out
- what social media activities work best for you
- what social media activities give you the best return on your investment
- what you enjoy and have fun with
- what you can automate or delegate
When you have identified which you will use for personal use and which you will use for your business accounts you can then start planning out your strategy.
02 Plan out your Goals and Strategy
The next step is to set and plan your Social Media Goals and your strategy for achieving those goals.
Using the Social Media Planner you can plan out your social media goals. The FULL edition of the social media planner includes Social Media Goals Pages including a progress tracker and strategy page for each goal. The FULL Edition also includes extra notes pages for each goal. This also gives you the space to consider different strategies and steps for your different accounts.
03 Be Consistent
Just because it is a “personal” account doesn’t mean that it shouldn’t be professional and consistent. Your profiles should be complete and properly maintained as if they were Business Accounts.
If you are using the Social Media Planner the full edition of the planner includes space for multiple profiles and includes space for 2 twitter accounts and 2 instagram accounts.
04 Plan your Content
The Social Media Planner includes a flexible double page layout for each week. This is designed to be flexible so that you can use it how suits you best – but one of the things that it is great for is for simulataeously planning out two accounts/identities.
Each week I use one half of the double layout to plan out my personal Linkedin and Twitter accounts and on the other, I plan out my business accounts. Use your social media planner to create and curate your content and plan it out in advance.
