Design your own 15 mins a day routine

social media strategy

Social media does not have to be time-consuming. If your social media is a nice to have and you are looking to deal with your social media activities as efficiently as possible then I suggest you have a quick 15 min routine.

Depending on your own personal social media strategy you might choose to focus on a single platform and therefore your routine will reflect this. Or alternatively, you might choose to spend 15 mins on each of the platforms you want to use in short bursts.

Once you have decided what you want to focus on you should design your own quick 15 min (or less) a daily routine so that you can be active on social media while ensuring consistency.

I have a basic 15 min daily routine that I aim to do every day without fail. If I have extra time to give to social media on any given day then this is an extra bonus to be enjoyed.

Here is an example routine (and can equally be tailored on a different social media platform and to suit your personal circumstances and goals):

LinkedIn in 15 mins a day

I use my daily LinkedIn Routine at the start of my professional working day when I get into the office and boot up my computer.

01 Check Notifications

Start by checking your notifications and dealing with them. The notifications might include messages, requests to connect, notifications about a connection’s birthday, promotion, job change etc.

02 Check your Network Updates/Newsfeed

Checking your Network Updates and Newsfeed (as well as people you follow and hashtags that you follow) etc can be a great resource of content to share, like and comment on.

Aim to share something of value to your connections on a daily basis. This might be a post by an influencer, an interesting piece of news (just make sure it is recent), a company update etc. If it is evergreen why not save it for future use rather than posting everything at once (and add it to your schedule).

03 Build and Grow your Presence

This might be adding a new connection. This might be following a new influencer, topic or hashtag. Whatever it is, little and often can ease the burden.

04 Engage with your Connections

As well as posting regular content and going through your news feed and liking, commenting, or sharing any valuable articles your network has shared. It is important to also be engaging. As well as engaging with things that you spot that are of interest it is useful to have a target list of connections that you want to engage with regularly (and that you seek out in the noise).

05 Share content on your Company Page or Group (or third party groups)

It is not all about your own personal feed. Also, take the time to check the notifications and engagements on your company pages or groups and active third-party groups and post useful content there as well on a regular basis. Pick a group a day and engage.

06 Do one of my LinkedIn Activities

Sometimes I will have planned a specific LinkedIn Activity, other times I will choose one at random, but to ensure regular engagement you should pick an activity to do on a daily basis (this might already be one of the activities mentioned above and you spend a little more time on it) or it might be another activity that forms part of the activity list in your social media planner.
