H is for… Hashtags
H is for… Hashtags
A simple way to improve your visibility on social media is to use hashtags. A simple strategy, but one that is often forgotten. A hashtag is a keyword or a phrase used to describe a topic or a theme. Hashtags on most social media platforms are clickable links and you can click on the hashtags to find content using the same hashtag.
Take some time to source and curate a good list of hashtags for your own needs.
You might use Hashtags to find good content (and to help people find your content). You might use Hashtags to categorise / organise your content. You might create your own branded hashtag so that people can find you. You might use trending hashtags to engage in popular conversations and topics of discussion. You migh use a hashtags to talk about a conference you are attending.
There are lots of reasons and lots of ways to use hashtags on social media.
- Instagram: If you are an Instagrammer, Hashtags have just become even more inportant as you can now follow hashtags and pictures with those hashtags will now come up in your feed.
- LinkedIn: Add hashtags to your articles when publishing on LinkedIn to help them get found by a wider audience.
- Twitter: Use Hashtags on twitter when tweeting about a IRL Conference or Event that you are attending to engage with other attendees. Hosting a conference? Use a hashtag to create a buzz before the event.

The Husband and I were cracking up the other day remembering when the hash tag was more commonly known as the number sign (#3) and later the pound sign on the telephone. Showing my age, I am. 🙂
