How to: Follow up after a Virtual Coffee

networking tips for beginners - coffee and conversations

Following up after a networking event is always important. Following up after a virtual coffee or chat is no different.

After the event make sure that you follow up with a quick thank you and that you deliver on any promises you made. For example, if you said you’d help with X, Y, or Z, then do it promptly.

Your thank-you email should include thanking the person for their time and reiterating a few things you learned and found of interest as part of your conversation. Encourage them to stay in touch and keep you informed about anything new as well as setting out any action points/next steps.

Using your networking planner or coffee and conversations notebook, note down and diarise any action points and other specific follow-ups as well as any ideas for the future. Finally, check back in with them from time to time after your virtual coffee and mark these in your planner. It is important to circle back to everyone in your network on a regular basis.
