Measuring for Social Media Success
Georgina Thorne, She is Digital
Georgina ran a quick and easy session on the importance of measuring. With some bold takeaways.
01. Set Goals.
You can’t improve what you don’t measure. Therefore it is important to check your analytics so that you know what is working, what is not working and what collaborations might be successful. Otherwise, your digital marketing efforts are worthless. You can’t improve. Reviewing your analytics can help you achieve your goals and help track your progress.
Georgina kept is it simple and took a closer look at some of the metrics and analytics that can be easily found on your social media platforms.
02. Look at your analytics: Check your post engagement rate
Part of your digital marketing strategy should be doing more of what is working. For example: producing more valuable content. However, how do you know if you are creating the right content? Well, this is where looking at your analytics can help. For example, looking at your post engagement rate.
- when are people interacting with your posts and when are they sharing/liking?
- what type of posts are getting the most engagement?
When your post engagement rates go up you are improving your reach.
You can check your post engagement rate easily for facebook and twitter, for Instagram it will be limited to last 30 days by engagement. However, it is all still useful data and only takes 10 mins to check.
03. Create More Content
When you have worked out what is working you should be creating more of that engaging content and send out to more people. This will ultimately tell more people about you and what you do and raise your profile/visibility. You will probably find that different content works better on different platforms and you should take this into account when reviewing your strategy. For example, you might your Instagram for more personal touch, Facebook to share knowledge and Twitter for industry news.
Monitoring your analytics also allows you to:
- Find your best content to increase engagement rate (not just guesswork);
- Experiment with new content and make changes and learn from the experiments;
- create better “paid for” advertising/content;
- learn from your mistakes;
- Play around with your tone/language and see what works.
