Mentoring: Prepare for your Mentoring Meetings

mentoring - networking tips for beginners

If you have been lucky enough to get a formal mentor through an internal or external mentoring scheme or if you are trying to build a stronger mentoring relationship with one of your existing contacts it is important that you:

  • get to know your mentor
  • prepare for your mentoring meetings
  • have a plan or a set of goals; and
  • review as you go along.

prepare for your mentoring meetings

After you have had your initial meeting you should properly prepare for each individual meeting that you have with your mentor. You should have agreed at your initial meeting the logistics of your meetings (when and where). You may have even agreed what the agenda will be for the next meeting.

As a mentee it will be for you to drive the meetings forward and set the agenda (topics of discussion).

As far as possible your agenda should tie in with your goals/objectives for your mentoring relationship.
