Mentoring: Starting the Conversation with Your Mentor.
Starting the conversation with your mentor can be an intimidating process, but it’s an important step in building a strong and effective mentorship relationship.
Here are some tips on what to include when you reach our to your mentor:
01. Introduce yourself
Start by introducing yourself. Write a short summary that will help your mentor understand what you need. Why are you looking for a mentor right now?
02. Explain why you have picked them
If you haven’t been “matched” and you have chosen to reach out to this Mentor yourself you should also explain why you have picked them to be your mentor.
03. Ask a Question
You can then kick off the conversation by asking them a question. Make it a open question – something only your potential mentor will know the answer to or can bring their own unique perspective to.
With the right introduction you can grab their attention and they’ll be able to see how they can help you.
