Networking Strategy: Write a Visibility Plan

The most important part of your networking strategy is to build a quality networking with strong relationships with your contacts.

Effective networking for your career advancement requires a strategic and specific focus which is why it is important to have a networking strategy.

Start with what you are hoping to achieve. What are your goals? Both in the short-term and in the long-term. How can your networking help you get there?

Once you have identified your career goals think about:

  • who you know and who you need to know to help you reach that goal;
  • identify people at all levels and positions in your company and industry who have the potential to help you, and
  • include in your network potential mentors and sponsors.

Your network should include people who provide different functions such as key stakeholders and decision-makers, people you trust to provide information and people who are connectors to introduce you to others you want in your network.

Then write a plan to boost your visibility with them either directly or through others in your network.
