While internal networking is important, you also need to network internally while avoiding people politics.  First and foremost you should be a team player and treat the members of your team (and all the other people you work with) with kindness and respect. It is not possible to get on with everyone. However, it is important to not gossip or engage in any hateful behaviour. Simply let it wash over you and if possible keep interactions to professional and to a minimum. It is also important to try and avoid people politics and taking sides.

Engaging in the political game such as taking sides, indulging in gossip can damage your reputation (and potentially your promotion prospects).

Instead, you should be demonstrating your people and networking skills.
