Quick Tip: Research the Guest List
A common complaint from people I meet who are fed up with or don’t like networking is that they never meet the people they are hoping to meet. This is why preparing for networking events and reviewing your events is important.
An easy way to prepare for a networking event is to check out the guest list before you attend an event. Do your research. This will help you to have an understanding of who is attending and who you will want to talk to (and why). You will then be able to seek them out and hopefully have a good conversation with them.
Of course, don’t let a bad guest list put you off attending. Instead, it is to help you maximise your time at the event. Preparation will help you pick interesting people to talk to and good topics of conversation that might not have otherwise been obvious from simply attending the event.
However, if you are attending and the people aren’t quite the right fit for you this should be clear from your post-event review. If you have properly prepared and it is still not the right attendees for you then you have no excuse for not identifying that it wasn’t the right event for you and you can look to do something else with your time.
