When getting to know your network it is important to listen and understand what they are about and what they are looking for. They may not have a need for your services right now but if you can help point them in the right direction to someone in your network that does fulfil their needs or spread the word about what they are looking for and whose needs they might satisfy.

Make sure you are creating value for the people you connect with professionally (without the expectation of getting anything back in return).
