Remote Networking Tips #9: Use your hobbies to expand your network
While working remotely you may have already found yourself tapping into forgotten hobbies or taking up new ones. As you will know a great way to build your network is organically through hobbies and interests (whether they’re work-related or not), as they can help you build the strong and authentic connections due to an interest in common.
Lockdown has seen an increase in remote groups for people to join and “network” with like-minded people while pursuing a hobby. For example online book clubs, film clubs, gaming groups, arts and crafts groups, cooking groups etc. If you have a hobby or interest that you are pursuing at home, there is probably some group or organisation that you can join.
When you spend time doing what you love or learning something new it can help you meet others who enjoy doing the same thing. This can be great from both a social and a career perspective as it widens your network and helps you build stronger relationships with the people you meet.
