U is for… Understanding Networking
Take some time to understand networking. You might be doing this by reading up on the subject by reading blogs and books). You might undertake some training. You might shadow someone else or you might simply be out there practising. All of these things are important to help you with your understanding of networking and the associated skills you need for networking.
Skill Development Plan: Write a training plan
Before starting consider the answers to the following questions:
- What training have I already undertaken to get here?
- What training does my Company provide?
- What training do any local or membership organisations provide?
- Is there anything I already do online / in my free time?
- What other training can I access?
- What form will this training take?
- Is there anything else I need to do myself?
- What is next?
Action Point: Once you know the answer to these questions you can start to formulate a training/educational plan. Then do the actual training.
WFH Action Plan: Some training options will be available online, so look to see what you can do while working from home as well as in-person and incorporate that into your training plan. If you have time you might also want to take advantage of some of this training or alternatively – catch up on some reading.
